One bite at a time…
We are going on a grand adventure around the world. Discovering the cultures of many lands, through their cuisine. In French and Russian the word “cuisine” means kitchen… so it in the kitchen we will start.
The busy lifestyles of today have put an emphasis on quick and easy cooking. Around the world many families spend half of their day or more procuring and preparing the family meal. It’s time to return to the kitchen and embrace the time spent together, working as a family, kids and parents together, to feed our bodies and feed our souls. Seeking out the best food we can obtain, grown locally and organically whenever possible, will not only ensure a healthier life for ourselves, but also for the earth. Back to nature, back to our roots.
Through this blog we will explore the kitchens of our neighbors. They live right next door and they live on the other side of the world. Probably the most quoted food writer, Jean Anthelme Brillat-Savarin (1755–1826) wrote, “Tell me what you eat, I’ll tell you who you are.” The food culture of a country is based on the native foods grown and produced, religion and traditon. It’s not only the food itself, but the preparation and presentation. Potatoes in India made into a curry with spices and peas, potatoes in France in a gratin with cheese, the tortilla espansola of Spain and mashed potatoes and gravy on our Thanksgiving table all start with the same common potato, but have different flavors, textures, aroma and look.
